Yeah, ignoring cost is certainly a big ask. :)
Still, those macs are all packed full of features - My wife's years-old powerbook has just had a harddrive die, and I was able to diagnose it by attaching it to mine in firewire target disk mode, where I could run the disk utility and see console messages. All that without opening the case, even though the machine is in a non-bootable state.
They're not cheap, but it's like the difference between buying server-class hardware or building your own white-box server.
If you can do everything you need with the 10" notebook (especially if it spends most of its time attached to an external monitor and keyboard), then more than double the price is a hard sell. I only talked myself into it after having had a macbook pro for a year which was provided by my employer. ;)

I'm still in love with my mac, and 10" is a bit small for me - so I'd say go with the MacBook. That's ignoring both cost and OS preferences though.
